A Day at the Races
It was an overcast, windy and cold day today at the Chester August Festival Meeting.
The dress code for men was a suit jacket and tie. I'm told that this is to keep out pikeys and scallys, and to set up an appropriate tone for the occasion. I don't think I'm the only one who thought the occasion looked a lot like a chav's wedding.
If you look at yesterday's journal, Flick had a little premonition that any horse with the words "new" or "old" in their name was bound to be lucky, so as soon as I got there, I strarted scanning the race card and to my astonishment, found two horses; each had one of the words in their name. Unfortunately, they were both in the same bluddy race.
However, when the time came, I put a small each way bet on both of them. The horse with "old" in it's name came nowhere, but gawd bless "New Star" - it romped home in front at 10-1 and I won £40!
So it was a good day, I came to the course with £20, and left with £60. The wide-angle lens fund has got off to a flying start.
