Dogcorner Cottage

We live in my maternal grandparent's home, built in 1893, purchased by them, from the son of the first owner, in 1928. We are situated on a corner called "Dogcorner" for some unknown reason in centuries past. The house was originally a summer cottage for a family who lived west of Boston. The first owner became a Boston Medical Society Librarian after a stint as a surgeon for the North during the Civil War. It is really has a unique look among the Capes, Colonials and New England Farmhouses in the immediate area. It's more Victorian than most, but with a real cottage feel. When we added on, our architect felt that the roofline(sort of hidden by the maple) had some 'Swedish bones' so to speak. She imagined a former sea captain had a hand in the construction and fondly remembered some homes across the Atlantic. I've been to Sweden many times and love the country. So, I happily embrace even another connection to the land of some very close friends on the Swedish West Coast.
