My five-year-old grand (and namesake, JJ) is thriving in kindergarten. The "light went on" for reading in the last month or so and she is devouring books whole!

We usually hit the bookstores a couple times and spend an afternoon at the library during my visits, checking out 40 or more books to share.

Her mother has always a reader. All my kids learned to read before kindergarten and it seems to be a genetic trait, one I have loved to pass on. Looks like we will clock some time on the phone now so she can read to faraway grandma.
