This is my friend Helen and her little boy, Matthew on the beach near Bamburgh.

When we once reminisced about college days we now talk about our children, and although we only see each other once a year, both suffering our own personal sadness in that time, there is a closeness that makes tears prick in my eyes. I hope in the future we be old and gray and saying,
"Do you remember when Matthew and Alfie were babies and we spent that afternoon on the beach?"
"Yes, Aflie screamed because he'd gone an hour over his sleep time and you forgot the sun cream."
