Iris festival

Another celebration today in Brussels. This time it was the Brussels region that celebrated its 21st birthday. Brussels is one of the three regions in Belgium, next to the Flemish region and the Walloon region.

The Brussels region celebrates its birthday every year with the Iris Festival. There are a large number of activities, such as street parties, concerts, dj's and a huge picnic.

Last year the weather was really great, but today it was grey. Luckily the sun came out for a while this afternoon! I took this picture at the picnic. It gives a good overview of the laidback atmosphere of the Iris Festival.

I took this picture when a theatre group passed through the croud, dressed as the iconic image of the man in the black suit and a bowler hat from the famous painting "Son of man" as a tribute to the Brussels-born artist René Magritte.
