Catterline, an MK 17 Buoyant Mine and art

When I first saw this lying by the side of a white building I thought "mine!". Looking closer I saw it really was a mine. Luckily it appeared to be hollowed out and probably not live...

Catterline seems like a lovely place so we stopped and had a picnic. As we sat an old guy walked up to use and blethered away for about 15 minutes telling us things about himself and the area. His name was Joe Simpson and he was once head teacher at the primary school in Catterline. He was 89 but really didn't look it. I wish we'd offered him a mug of tea from our flask. Next time we will. The things he told us about the area included details of two well known artists used to paint near by. Joan Eardley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_Eardley) and James Morrison (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Morrison_(artist)). Believe it or not I'm actually sitting right next to a Morrison picture dated 1978 as I write this.
