Big air

It was the official opening of the Edinburgh Skatepark today. As you can see from the three links there it's been open for a wee while but today was the big launch event. We got there a bit after the start but in time to catch the skate demo's in the big bowl and some stuff in the bowl next to that.

After that there was a Clan Bikes demo in a wee area they had set up in the car park. We headed over for a look and to get some shots but it was absolutely heaving due to the presence of local youtube celebrity Danny MacAskill.When we got over there they had a kind of bunny hop high jump setup which got up to 115 cm. Thankfully while I was trying to figure out how to get decent shots I spotted an old friend Chas, who set up the Skatepark facebook group (seen here in the purple hoodie) who was filming the event. I gave him a shout and he said it was fine to come into the wee arena they had set up for some shots.

This was the grand finale, after each bunny hopping their way up to teh top of the ten foot platform in the baco of the shot and jumping off it back to ground level the final piece was this one. That's Danny lying on the lower platform and his mate (Ally I think) jumping off the ten foot platform with the intention of landing his back wheel between Danny's legs. A trick, I'm pleased to report, which ended up with no injuries.

It was a great couple of hours, and a big thankyou to Chas for letting me into this bit for shots.
