Hello Africa, tell me how you do it...
It's less than 40 days to go to the soccer / football world cup hosted by South Africa and the fever is running HIGH... from flags to shirts to covers for your car's rear view mirrors... you name it, we've got it!
I've been meaning to take a picture of the flags sold by the street vendors on the side of the road, but when the wind is blowing I don't have my camera and vice versa. Today was perfect: the wind was blowing, my camera was on the front seat and when the traffic light turned red there was only one car in front of me (yes, I was driving and taking pictures at the same time...). All the flags were blowing in the wind, so I managed to get a decent shot.
Now take this shot and imagine the same thing on every second street corner... Our soccer team is exceptionally pathetic and have no chance of doing well, but us South Africans are born with sport in our blood and a tendency to be very patriotic! We even have "Football Fridays" country wide at the moment, where everybody's wearing South African soccer shirts to work!
And then, driving to work in the mornings, past the waving flags, we all tap our fingers on the steering wheels to the same beat on the radio: "Hello Africa, tell me how you do it..." :)
