Black Middens

That's the name of those outcrops of rocks in the River Tyne. They have been the cause of many a grounding, a number of deaths and the formation of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade. Not knowing much about the latter I've been on the intertubes and they even had two callouts today - one a malicious hoax and one a man who was wondering whether to jump off a bridge further up the Tyne (he decided not to). And here was me thinking that it was just a snap of a pretty sky!
