A new day has come
Featuring the music of Celine Dion and Neil Diamond
a passion play
R jnr and I went to a show at a church in Hartbeespoort with A, her mom and her brother tonight.
Their church does two plays per annum to raise funds for a 'Stimulation Centre for Brain Damaged Children' here in our little town. The name of the centre is: Kuierkidz Leersentrum (Kuier is Afrikaans for visit, Kidz is self explantory methinks and Leersentrum is Afrikaans for Study centre).
The centre was started by their congregation and is totally dependant on money raised by the church. They organised a Golf Day for 21st May as well, and they ask for donations to be paid into their bank account, any amount is welcome!
The play is about the cruicifixion of Christ, but was presented in a very modern way, to the music of Celine Dion, eg. I'm alive, and Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline, with the words changed to Sweet Jesus Christ, to name but two!
It was brilliantly done, especially if you take into account that it was done by ordinary members of the congregation, no professional help! The Director was Marlene McKay, a lovely lady who lost her son in a housefire a few years ago, her husband Bruce played the roll of Jesus, with heartbreaking passion! The two Roman soldiers, flanking Jesus on the cross in the picture, are twin brothers from our local big Afrikaans Secondary School!
The decor was brilliant as well, and changed within seconds for different scenes! The sound and lighting was just as brilliantly done!! As close to professional as one can get!!
A great evening was had by all present! Three hoorays for Marlene, Bruce and the whole cast!! Well done!! God bless!
