Basket Flower

The Basket Flower(Centaurea americana) is a fairly common wildflower in Texas. This one just bloomed along the driveway and I decided that it would be my blip today, along with some information on the flower!

"One of the showiest and most common wildflowers in the state, basket flower is easily cultivated and makes an excellent cut flower for bouquets. The seeds are often sold in nursery catalogues under the names Powderpuff or Sweet Sultan. This plant looks similar to the thistles but lacks their prickly characteristics.
