Fun!
A while ago I've tould you about a couple of Mallards that visited my front yard, looking for shelter. The white female was hurt in her neck because of very rude male Mallards. This couple is long gone. I think she must have had a nest somewhere that she had to attend.
Since two weeks there is a new female Mallard hiding in my front yard (I think the word of a safe house is spread amongst the Mallard population). This white female is accompanied by two males who look after her very carefully. She hides in the bushes and they sit in front of it. When I bring food and water, she eats first and they are very content with the left overs. Two other male Mallerds come by every day and try to rape her (her neck was a bloody mess the first day I saw her, its getting better now), but her boys are heroically defending her.
This morning they were gone. An hour ago I went for a walk to the pond to see where they went and I saw them. The two males were in the water that they had missed for almost two weeks and were obviously having a lot of fun. The Lady was sitting at the waterfront looking at her heroes play and enjoying the sunshine on her feathers. So romantic........
Now, of to the front yard with some buckets of water to wash away all the Duck shit.
