A New Fish Farm
Since I went to Malawi first, I am constantly amazed at the lack of protein in the diet of the villagers we work with. The eat mountains of Nsima ( a type of maize flour) but little protein, just some small amounts of beans when they have them.
When we build dams we find we have an ideal location in which to reat fish.
Today's pic is taken when Harisen returns fron the fisheries with some fish for a fish pond in a new area (to us).
The fish are given using our zero interest, micro credit scheme. When the fish are sold the loan is repaid and the process begins again
Harisen writes:
John,
We went to give 400 fishes to this guy in Bala just after Elamuleni. We let him know the cost and he understands the terms of the loan.
The auctineer was saying that,we can give him 250,000mk for land in Sonda,or 650,000mk for the land after the roadbrock. We didnt get to measure the land today.
Harisen.
The loan today is the maximum loan we give to an individual, 2000 Mkw, which is just over 20 euro. If the project is bigger people come together and pool resources. The co op is responsible for repayment.
