Sue's Surprise Birthday Party
This evening we enjoyed the surprise dinner party birthday celebration for Sue. After the number of memorial services we have attended lately, celebrating Sue's birthday and honoring her was so meaningful.
I've known Sue for at least 33 years. She has been a leader and a mentor for me. She has four children, three sons and a daughter. Her youngest son is the same age as our oldest and they went to school together. Sue and her husband, Joe, raised their daughter's three children and those grandchildren are such responsible mature young adults.
This evening several dozen people gathered at Don Jose's Mexican Restaurant to surprise Sue and dine with her. Watching her enter to the surprise was more than fun. Observing as she opened and read her cards was extremely meaningful. When she opened the present from her family, a laptop computer, she was elated. She has been concerned because she & Joe are getting ready to drive all the way across the U.S. and back and be gone for a couple months. She wants to be able to continue communicating with everyone by email and to be able to continue doing the books for the businesses they oversee and manage. She was just tickled to receive this gift. (With his iPhone, Mr. Fun captured that one frame with Sue and her new laptop.)
It was just a year ago that we attended the graduation party for Sue & Joe's grandson-in-law, Nick, as he finished Fire Academy. I blipped that event and now Nick has just been hired into a full time position with a county fire department.
It was a great pleasure to be included once again with this special family's celebrating. Our evening has been filled with meaning. I'm so thankful for friends.
Good night from Southern California.

P.S. I'm using the my friend Lynda's "air-card" also known as "wireless internet USB 3G-modems" -- this is terrific. If you've read my "wireless dilemma" of the past couple days, you'll know that I am thrilled to be downstairs with Mr. Fun and online with this laptop! Woohoo!
