Catacombs Paris

Today is my 58th birthday and I look better than these two..............just.

Still using my new toy and investigating its abilities. Today, low light with no flash or tripod

The Catacombs are fascinating. 280+ steps down to an artificial cave network, part of which is used to store bodies when the graveyards overflowed, initially during the French Revolution. Not been used since 1970?s I think.

100,000?s of bodies are down here, just the skulls, and leg/arm bones on show. These have been made into patterns, like fancy plasterwork, and piled up in ornate shapes. All quite artistic, if you ignore the material they are using.

None of the bones are stuck down and some people must feel the need to liberate a few of them. That is why there is a guard at the top of the stairs as you leave; there were two skulls on the table next to him. Dont know what happened to the culprits, bit difficult to explain away a skull in your bag (gosh officer I dont know how that got there, its not mine)
