What a brilliant day. After a lovely lie in, Michael came in with the mail. As soon as I saw the postmark, my heart sunk. I knew it was going to be about my application to get on the teaching degree at Uni, and I just knew it was going to be 'thanks, but your American degree needs to be transferred and/or is too old to be considered...' or 'thanks but no thanks.' Instead, it said I was accepted!!! My feet have not touched the floor all day! I can't believe that, at my age, I'm getting a second chance to do something I love.

There are a lot of reasons of why this shouldn't have happened. There were a lot of obstacles passed along the way to get to this point. Eventually, I'm sure this journal will reveal more (maybe), but for now, just trust me when I say a few years ago, long term plans weren't talked about. But now, the next two years will be intense, mad, hard ... and I'm so looking forward to it!

I used to work with a lady at the Attorney General's Office that went back to University at 71 years old after her husband left her on Christmas Eve. I asked her why she was bothering and she replied 'Well, I just decided that I had a choice to die with a degree or die without one. For me, the answer was to go for the degree.' That comment had more of impact than Joan realized. I went to school at night (as was working full time) to gain my first degree. Now, almost 20 years later, I'm going for a second degree in a totally different field.

Life is more amusing than I thought.
