On the wrong track

"Yes, what is it now? I'm at the station, as I said I'd be. And I thought I told you not to call me. What? No, he's not here yet, lucky for you. His train's been delayed."

A pause, in which the only sound is a rapid gabbling noise from the man's mobile phone.

"Hang on, calm down. You're making no sense, man. Right. Now, start again: slowly, this time."

There followed a longer pause, during which the man holding the mobile seemed to lose some of his look of serenity.

"So, let me see if I've understood. You, brother Armstrong, have broken down the front door of the wrong person's house? Does that just about sum it up, hmm? No - you listen. I'm not surprised they're angry. Have they called the police yet? Good - make sure they don't. Do you think you can do that without fu ... messing up, brother?"

There followed a further pause.

"Well how could the old lady have lied to us? You tell me. Look, I haven't got time for this right now. Just sort it out, OK? Look, there's no point in going back to the workshop now, is there. Come to the church later - that's where I'm heading once his train arrives. And when you meet him, let's make sure we keep this little mistake to ourselves, OK?"
