The urban spaceman
Took a walk late this afternoon round a local park which was lovely - and wet!
This park is the one that suffered huge damage in 2008 when a massive storm swept through the region. Heaps of huge old trees were uprooted or damaged in other ways which has had a marked effect on the density of the trees round the park (which, incidentally, began life as a private garden for some colonials who set up home here. Very pleased it's now a public park.)
It really comes into it's own in the spring when the daffodils, rhodedendrons, azaleas, bluebells etc come into bloom. But today, the soggy autumn leaves needed a clean up and this urban spaceman was the man to do it - with his trusty blower vac of course!
And blower vacs? I add them to the long list of things I call 'smart technology that's killing us'. Why? The more machines we invent to do our labour for us the less of a workout we get.......which, at a global if not personal level, increases CHD, weight etc. Other technologies I include in the list (besides the obvious car!) are electric blenders and beaters, electric toothbrushes, remote controls, escalators, electric knives etc. I'm not saying that there are very valid reasons for using all of these things for some people some times, but at a general commercial level I swear they're making us lazy and fat!
Rant over.
(and yes, I do have a number of these kitchen devices although rarely use most of them!)
