From the inside
A friend told us about a cheap way to see some great soccer in the new stadium, so we organized an excursion for the Bridging Year interns and spent the evening here. For 30 rand per seat, we got to see two international under-20s games (South Africa vs. Brazil and Gana vs. Nigeria), and poked around the stage for the World Cup finals. I think it was a really nice experience for the interns to see people their own age playing soccer in such a historic setting. The stadium itself is beautiful: great views of the ocean and Signal Hill, and the recently-opened walkway from the city center is very nice. The vuvuzelas (plastic bugles the South Africans like to blow consistently no matter what?s happening in the game) are deafening, sort of like a beehive nightmare. But the excitement is worth it.
