Birth Announcement

Sammy and Sally, the father and mother killdeer, are pleased to announce the birth of their 4 children--Scooter, Seymour, Sara, and Saddie (no, I really cannot tell their gender). The baby killdeer were born on April 28th. Scooter, shown in the photo, was the first born. We named him Scooter because he is the one who is always way out in front of the others. Three of the four babies are up running around and eating bugs--with their daddy closeby at all times. Sally is still sitting on the nest next to the fourth baby who seems to be having some trouble getting up and about. We hope this baby will be okay. This photo is not the best because I cannot get close enough to the birds without causing a lot of fustration to mom, dad, and the 3 babies. I hope they stay around for a while; they are sure fun to watch.
