90th Birthday Mandela Coins

A few memorabilia of the beloved Nelson Mandela!

These are stamps and coins issued on Madiba's 90th birthday on 18th July 2008.

He was born on 18th July 1918, only 2 months before my late father-in-law and 3 months before Lillian's late grandmother, who was fortunate enough to live until February 2009. (Some little bit of useless information!!) ;-)

The brown envelope has a printed picture of a much younger Nelson and 2 pictures of him on his 90th Birthday! The perforated part, head and shoulders, of both pictures, are two postage stamps, the one to the value of Standard Postage, and the other of International Airmail Small Letter Postage.

At the foot of the envelope are three coins, issued to commemorate his 90th birthday as well. The one in the middle is still uncertified and sells for much less than the certified ones to it's left and right. But they are still to be shipped to America for validation, although some collectors prefer to buy them just as is, and have them validated afterwards, because of the fact that the value increases by the day!

The coins are authenticated and valued at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation of America and a certificate is issued to guarantee the authenticity. The ones in the picture are graded M66 and the certification number appears underneath the grading! I captured two, in order to show the front as well as the back of the coin, and of the certification! These are valuable pieces!! Read more about their values here!

R snr and a friend, a well known Art Dealer, managed to buy quite a number of these and plan on selling them to collectors. Sóóó exciting!!
