On the outside, looking in
At that moment, across town, a pigeon fluttered frantically from the roof of a now-familiar building.
Inside, a mobile phone rang. A now-familiar voice answered.
"So you're in position? Good. What's that? Well I'm not surprised they didn't just open the door when you knocked - they're hardly likely to welcome you with open arms, are they."
A few moments' silence seemed to increase the impatience in his voice.
"Well I suggest you do what you need to gain entry. Break it in if you have to, but be as discreet as possible."
A further pause.
"Look, if that's all, I need to get to the station right now. When I get back here I want to see you here with the key. Got that? Good."
