Content squirrel
Sitting in the garden is sometimes like being in the middle of an urban nature reserve. There was a host of sparrows in the garden, on both feeders and in the bird bath, and a female starling on the fatball. A wood pigeon and a female squirrel came down to graze on whatever the sparrows and starling had dropped. I discovered some hazelnuts in the kitchen and lured the squirrel to within a good picture-taking distance. She leaned against the eglu and had a feast before another squirrel came and chased her up the plum tree, across the apple tree, over next-door's shed, up the copper beech, leaping onto the pear tree and into the fir tree where they have their drey.
White socks cat has been prowling around the periphery of the garden. He and Whisky had a big fight yesterday - there was fur everywhere. F, myself and the upstair's neighbour were all shouting at them to shut up and take their fight elsewhere - the noise! Both cats came out of the fight miraculously unhurt, but the incident may be a turning point in Whisky's life. White socks has been boss since Whisky arrived, chasing him into corners, yowling at him and coming into the flat to eat Whisky's food. It's about time Whisky showed him whose territory it is.
