Day of memories

Today marks the day, 27 April 1990, 20 years ago, when R snr came into our lives! He moved in to the flatlet we had attached to our house, when he started teaching at a school about 500mt from our house! There was no suspicion at that stage that he would become my son-in-law within 18 months from that day!! ;-)

It was the day when C got her first car as well! She was só proud of her little 1980-something Mini Clubman 1275! It was a little yellow one with two thin black strips on the side! Awesome little car!! We even drove it from Potchefstroom to Pretoria, to visit M (MissU2).

It is Freedom day for South Africa as well, on 27 April 1994, 16 years ago, SA went to the poles for the first Democratic Election ever!

We unpacked a box with all sorts of memorabilia as well, and found these three lovely leather pouches my late father brought home from Egypt during the 2nd World War! He had them made for my mom and the wallet, in front on the picture, was especially made for him, with his initials, 'LJE' embossed on the leather on the inside.

He brought them home almost 70 years ago, in the very early 1940's! They are somewhat 'threadbare' in places, but R snr refuses to have them restored, he says it will spoil the real sentimental value and will lose it's antique value!! We will have it framed with strong glass over it and hang it somewhere in the house!
