The leaf and the gateway

Thought I'd take some pictures of the one of the zillions of coleus plants in our back yard, but noticed that many of them have little (or bigger) holes in them. Through the holes are other leaves (petals, I guess), healthy or not (some of them have holes, too). It seemed to me that, rather than a sign of ill health (which I'm sure it is), it was more a kind of entryway into a secret place, deeper in the plant.

Besides that, I thought the colors were pretty nifty.
