Day 2 - St Malo to Loire Valley

Up at 7ish, woken by the Hi-di-Hi style wake up call onboard!

Soon disembarked and made our way to the walled old town of St Malo in Brittany. We had a day to fill before we could check in to our 'gite' so we thought we might aswell do some sightseeing. Within 20 minutes of leaving the ship we were sitting in a cafe on a cobbled street drinking strong coffee and eating baguette and fresh croissants. Quintessential French moment no.1.

After a walk around the walls we hit the road and drove south, stopping at the Brittany town of Vitre which the guide book (neh bible) said had a nice old town. Right it was too. Sun was shining, so we sat outside and had crepes in a traditional Breton creperie.

Fed and watered we continued south, stopping at the supermarket on the way to stock up on provisions, and arrived at our gite in the heart of the Loire Valley. Very rural, incredibly quiet, extremely cosy. Bottle of the local wine in the fridge as a welcome gift. Soon sitting out on the patio drinking said wine.

Heaven.
