Hamburg

This is Ani DiFranco's very own guitar pick, from her concert at Fabrik, Hamburg in '05.
Anja and I spontaneously went to Germany to see the show, and the trip turned out to become kind of a turning point in my life.
I'd just turned 16, had never travelled without my mother before, never been kissed, only just started drinking, and so on.
Suddenly, I was getting trashed in a foreign city, exploring it's prominent alternative subculture, ended up snogging a complete stranger all night, hanging out with weird dreadlocked lesbians, and generally felt the thrill of being free of all boundaries and going searching for adventures somewhere completely new.
I even tried to get pierced, but was too young XD
