Hybrid identity

St George's Gardens, Bloomsbury, London - a former and one of the very first burial ground to be established away from a church in early 18th century.

Overcrowding and disrepair led to the closure of the burial ground at the turn of the 19th century, and it was converted into a garden in mid 19th century...or as the housing reformer Octavia Hill said - 'an open air sitting room for the poor'.

Evidence of the burial grounds are everywhere however as shown in this picture.

As it was such a sunny and beautiful day in London today, I stumbled upon these gardens by chance as I walked from Farringdon to Bloomsbury.
