Spinnaker Tower over Old Portsmouth
Another glorious day on the South Coast..
Dumped the car along the seafront and enjoyed a walk in the fresh air. Well, 2 out of 3 of us anyway. After lunch and icecreams, couldn't help this shot of the Spinnaker Tower overlooking Old Portsmouth.
Originally planned as part of the Millenium celebrations, this tower was not opened to the public until October 2005 due to construction delays and political contraversy
Rising to a level of 17- mtrs high, this is the the tallest publicly accessible building outside London and was built as part of the Renaissance of Portsmouth Harbour scheme. Visitors can explore the three viewing platforms at 100m, 105m and 110m. They can choose to ascend by a high-speed internal lift travelling at four metres per second or by an external glass lift which provides panoramic views. Each deck offers stunning wrap-round views through floor-to-sky glass windows.
Also recommended is the see through glass floor on the first viewing platform - not for the faint hearted. Even managed to encourage Emma onto it.
Finally managed to get some pics onto flikr... Try this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/19382662@N06/
