Skipping stones

We hiked up to our favorite spot [best viewed in large] on the river in a national park outside Thimphu today. This spot is popularly known as "the beach" and offers great sunbathing alongside a glacier-fed stream in a majestic forest of hemlocks and rhododendron trees. When the kids were younger and starved for a chance to swim (there are only a couple of cloudy pools in Bhutan), they used to swim in the ice-cold water. One sign of their entry into adolescence was that they had absolutely no interest in swimming and scanned the shallows for leeches instead. And of course, skipped stones.
