Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western A

After enjoying a good breakfast at the hotel we explored the area around the State Capitol building, including the Indianapolis Repertory theater with its ornate facade, and the Artsgarden, then walked along the canal a little way to see this building which we had somehow missed yesterday. The far side of the building gives on to the Canal Walk. Then we drove out to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, which is situated about 4 or 5 miles from the city center, and is set amidst beautiful gardens. Also on the museum's campus is the Oldfields-Lilly house and gardens, a 22-room mansion that was once the home of J.K. Lilly Jr., the late Indianapolis businessman, collector and philanthropist. We wandered around the beautiful gardens first, until Roger's allergies started getting the better of him, then we went inside to explore the museum itself. We spent several hours there, exploring the artwork, and having a very nice lunch in their cafeteria. Later, we wandered the gardens some more, enjoying the sunshine, then went back to the Canal area I talked about yesterday and took out a pedal boat. By this time it was time to head back home. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Indianapolis, finding it to be a very attractive city.
