Many Bhutanese houses sport graphic representations of a "phallus" or two for good luck. As you can see from this photo [best viewed in large to see all the detail ;-)], life goes on without paying much attention to them.

Another explanation for the phallic art is that it is a reminder of Drukpa Kuenley, a Bhutanese saint with no regard for the restrictions of the status quo. He drank and womanized and wandered around dressed as a beggar, defying all conventions. To this day, you can get blessed by a wooden phallus at his temple.

My kids suggested that we paint one on our house. Ha ha - we'd all be arrested!
