Dule Tree
A short walk around the grounds of Leith Hall.
The tree has a plaque nearby which says,
"The Dule Tree
Tradition has it that this aged sycamore tree was at one time used as a gallows from which those convicted by 'Barons' Law' were hanged. The word 'dule' derives from the Gaelic and means 'grief'. Old sycamores, growing on mounds like this one, are sometimes met with in Scotland near long-inhabited sites, and may have been used originally as places of mourning for members of a clan or family killed in battle."
