No public right of way

One of the ways that you know you're in England is when public footpaths are rigidly fenced in. Every gate or stile on or off the path is marked as private, just in case anyone thinks that it might not be. You start to appreciate the Land Reform Act .

It reminds me a wee bit of a great book by Fay Godwin. Full of lovely gentle landscapes and portraits highlighting the small ways people have interacted with and affected the landscape.

It's been a busy day. A lie in, a wee walk down the river, a sleep and now I'm sitting in the hotel bar with a pint of Northumbrian Gold while Mandy and the smalls have a wee swim. Weather's grand.
