Hummingbird hawk moth

A really hot day in the garden today - we did a bit of work then had a long lunch of barbecued lamb, onions and red peppers and a bottle of local red wine. A perfect Sunday. The garden was full of butterflies and lizards. I took so many photos (some of which will go on the garden blog) and it was hard to choose, but this one, of the hummingbird hawk moth on the aubretia flowers won, because I liked the way you can see the proboscis in the flower. That's the only part of the moth that touches the flower as it hovers with wings moving incredibly fast and then flits to the next flower.
