Peregrine Falcon
Took the niblings to Falkland Palace this afternoon for their 'Mary Queen of Scots' weekend. Having known nothing about the palace before I went, I was impressed by its importance as a holiday home for lots of Royalty I had actually heard of. It is a pretty small palace for the expensive entry fee though (£10 for adults).
There was a rather amateurish 're-enactment' in the chapel by various people in period dress. Mostly embarassingly bad, but some lovely medieval dancing and guitar playing (although I am not sure that they had guitars in those days, and the dancers certainly didn't have tape players that hadn't been re-wound properly).
There was also a tasting of medieval food, which varied from the odd to the delicious.
Outside in the grim rain, there was supposed to be a falconry display, but we had apparently missed it. Very nice falconry chap (falconer?) said they only do one at 2pm, despite all the guides telling us to go outside and enjoy the falconry display when we arrived later than that.
An interesting afternoon out, although not totally impressed by the National Trust's efforts.
Neither was this Peregrine Falcon. He just got to sit around on a wet perch most of the afternoon.
