Balancing nature&nurture

Collars & Tags

Been checking the dogs tags today after spending most of the morning rounding up a beautiful Dalmatian bitch that was alone and loose on the main road. She was really scared and froze in between the two lanes as the traffic screeched to a halt, but didn't want to come any near any of us.

Eventually with the help of our paper boy and his sister we managed to put her on a lead and even later on found out where she lived and took her home.

I think her owner had gone to work leaving teenaged son and friends in the house, reckon one of them had let her slip out as they left. All just lucky accident that we managed to catch her and find her home as she didn't have a tag on her collar with a number or address and I don't know if she was micro chipped.

Rather spooked me so I have been checking my guys tags to make sure they are up to date. I have the vets number on one side and my mobile on the other so if I'm out looking and someone tried to contact me I can be contacted direct. They've also all been micro chipped and there's a red tag on their collars so any vet they could scan her and could identify me as her owner.

There's a group of youngsters called SOFA (Sofa on Facebook) who are campaigning to make micro chipping compulsory, it can help stop a dog being put down if its lost or if its stolen a vet can ID its original owner so it can prevent a lot of heart ache. If you can please sign their petition - they are trying to get it up to 10,000 signatures.

Sorry for the "campaigning" blip but dealing with this gorgeous lost dog today as I say rather spooked me!
