Colyton Tram

Cold, sunny Easter Sunday afternoon and the little tram which runs between Colyton and Seaton in Devon, slowly clicking its way along the edge of the River Axe as it spreads out towards the sea, is busy with windblown holiday makers unfailingly captivated by the amazing journey. There are different styles of tram from single story trams with ornate wrought iron decoration to double deckers where smaller bodies squeeze themselves up tiny, tiny, spiral staircases to get the best seats. When the trams pulls into the Victoriana delight which is Colyton Tram station, the beaming passengers spill off into the cafe for very welcome warming cappuccino and home made cake. But they itch to get back on the tram again to repeat the tram experience. It's a magical journey - silently gliding along, almost touching the river and with unrivalled access to the wildlife and wading birds - the creatures totally relaxed because both you and they are nowhere near any civilisation - roads, houses or people. You're in their world, surrounded by hedges, fields and marshes untouched by humans - except for this quiet toy-like tram sliding along the tram lines, almost with a finger pressed against its lips saying "ssssshhhhhhhh, just watch".
