Waves at Mystic Beach
I decided to head west out of Victoria and travel along the Juan de Fuca strait to one of the provincial parks. I stopped off at China Beach and hiked along the trails to Mystic Beach. I got many beautiful pictures of the temperate rain forest but decided to blip one from a more significant event on the trip. Once I got to Mystic Beach the tide was coming in and the waves were incredible! Powerful, loud and moving very quickly! I wanted to try and capture the power of the crashing waves and moved closer to the tide line to set up the shot. I was wearing my knapsack with two additional lens, my Epson backup unit and gps. I was watching the wave through my viewfinder, waiting for a big wave to crest just before the large boulders in the surf. Well, I should have been watching my feet as well! The wave pictured here was so large that it traveled almost twice as far up the beach as the others - I quickly tried to back up, but the wave chased me up the beach. I was not looking behind me and I backed into and tripped over large boulder. I landed on my knapsack, twisted my foot (which got soaked anyway) and my camera flew out of my hand landing on the rock. Guess that is better than in the surf. Luckily there was no damage to my camera or lens, just to my pride and maybe my ankle. But I got the picture! That makes it my blip for the day!
