Pictures at an Exhibition
I first came across Pictures at an Exhibition as the Emerson, Lake & Palmer album from 1971 - good old Prog Rock, those were the days. This then introduced me to Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky's version. Now if either of these questions had come up in last nights quiz I'd have been on safe ground. As it was even though we got the same number of questions wrong as last week, we slipped from our winners podium to be only 5th last night.
Here's what we got wrong this week:
1. The 1987 film Full Metal Jacket is set during which war?
2. Which car manufacturer produces a model named Spark?
3. Which singer's only UK No 1 single was in March 1960 entitled Running Bear?
4. Mescal is a Mexican spirit distilled from which plant?
5. What type of creature does an ichthyologist study?
6. Which actor has starred in the films The Untouchables, Internal Affairs, Black Rain, The Godfather Part III, & Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead?
7. In 2010 who became the first England off spinner to take 10 wickets in a Test match since Jim Laker in 1956?
8. Which drug, sold over the internet as plant food, has various nicknames including "miaow miaow"?
9. What was the name of the fire chief captain in TV's Trumpton?
10. Which word can precede: cone, dive, flute, out, rag, ring and wheel?
11. Featured in the Disney film Tarzan, who sang the Golden Globe-winning song You'll Be in My Heart?
The quiz is well & enjoyably run by Andrew and as his website says "If you're in London, Essex, Herts, Beds or Bucks - Want to hold a quiz event but can't find a quiz master? - Want a fun evening?" Then give him a call.
Back to today and it's been a day of going round the shops looking for inspiration / furniture for our bedroom. Not an auspicious start as we headed into Hertford only to find the shop was closed all day Thursday. Onto Stevenage and the chain stores which never close, before deciding to have lunch at the friendly and cheap B&Q cafe where bacon buttie and coffee could be had while enjoying the picture exhibition.
