Crocus baytopiorum

The so called blue crocus has finally had enough time to bloom. I first planted a young bulb in 2008 not quite sure what to expect. Now 2 years later the wait has paid off. Not a true blue like a gentian or delphinium but rather good for a crocus.

This was photographed at noon today, now there is 3-4 inches of heavy wet snow on the ground as another March storm gets under way. The joys of living in the center of a continent. The highs in F from last Wed to today are 68, 64, 37(6-8" of snow), 36(sunny), 59, 65, and today 51 with thunder, lightning, grapple, and now a major snow storm. March is finally living up to its "normal" self.
