Lake Merritt birds

I was scheduled for jury duty today but wasn't needed, so I went to Oakland's Lake Merritt, which includes a bird sanctuary. Some birds are year round; others are just passing through or wintering.

The white pelican is injured and stays here year-round. Black-crowned night herons are usually here in abundance, but this was the only one I saw. The scaup is a seasonal visitor. Pigeons are always here but especially amorous this time of year.
