How times change...
as a wee girl I used to play near the Union canal. In those days the canal disappeared under the ground at Longstone and reappeared up at the top of the Calders.
The only boat I ever remember seeing was a rusty old iron canalboat up near Colinton Dell.
Nowadays it's all changed, you can walk the pathways without fear of tripping and ending up in the water, the canal itself is cleaned regularly and this wee bit up near Ashley Terrace is like a little bit of the Norfolk Broads brought to Edinburgh.
It's so nice to see people caring about a way of life that, 20 years ago was looked upon as antiquated and near extinct.
It's still scary as hell to walk over the Slateford aqueduct though!!
