Prevailing Winds

One of the early signs that summer is coming are the kiteboarders and the prevailing winds.

Somewhere around March, the winds turn in from the East off the ocean. With the change in winds, the kiteboarders show up.

Today, despite it being a chilly March day, they were out in numbers putting on quite a display. By early afternoon, there were 11 boarders speeding across the sound.

I enjoyed a bit of the sunny afternoon sitting on the sea wall watching them get their gear ready, suit up and launch themselves off shore.

I also enjoyed knowing that right on the heels of the kiteboarders is the best season at the beach... summer!
