Poor substitutes
There is one reason, and one reason alone, that it's frustrating that I no longer take taxis in Cairo - all the missed photo opportunities.
This morning, I was driving behind a small van (in the South African sense of the word, not the American), laden with vegetables. There were vegetables on the roof, vegetables bursting out of the opening at the back of the van, and in the midst of all these vegetables, 3 or 4 large Egyptian women, bright coloured scarves on their heads, sitting, talking, and laughing. I tried to take a photo of them, as I was driving, and while I, thankfully managed not to crash into them in the process, the photos were very tilted and embarrassingly bad.
So instead, here's a moderately bad photo of a man walking down a street in downtown Cairo.
