Old and New Leith; Same Street - Worlds apart

This picture of Cables Wynd House, North Leith in Edinburth and a multi million pound new housing developement that is in the middle of completion. These houses will retail at anything around the half a million figures depending on size, while the residents staying in the council flats on the left of picture have suffered acutely from severe social problems such as drug addiction, prostitution and violence over the past 3 decades.
With all the investment and developement in the last decade, that has been put into an area which suffered badly (recession during the Thatcher years and industrial contraction over the past 50 years, with for example the docks and shipping trade been greatly reduced), Leith has a brighter future but is definitely now a tail of 2 cities.
