Controlled fire, or is it?
Two days ago this fire was started at the back of the mountains probably by the Forestry department. They are clearing the area(s) of low bushes, shrubs and growth that hinder rain water flowing into the river(s).
This afternoon it got fairly windy and a brisk breeze started to blow outside.
As I was mostly inside today, I did not notice that the fire was more or less coming over the ridge towards our residential areas. It is still some way off, but if the wind keeps up, it can take a different turn.
There are a few small aircraft and helicopters circling, I suppose that they are monitoring the situation.
About five years ago another fire, also in this area, got out of hand when the wind started to blow at storm level. It was useless to try to contain the fire and a thatch roof house, about one hundred metres from our house, caught fire. It was severely damaged.
The strength of the forces of nature is something that we can only stand in awe of.
