Milad and Marina

Cousins Milad and Marina from Hay al Zabaleen, one of the poorest, most rundown areas in Cairo. The name literally means the Garbage Collectors District.

Milad lives with his parents and two younger brothers, Shenounda and Yassa, in one room. They have a bed, a paraffin stove, and small cupboard. They share a bathroom with four other families on their floor.

I wish I had also gotten a picture of Shenouda while he was telling us the story of the party they had at his nursery, where they gave him Cacolia (otherwise known as Coke...)
