Walked down to our beautiful Memorial Park for the end of year party.
The older children swam and the younger ones played on the equipment.
It warms the cockles of my heart to see the children enjoying this equipment.
The rain held off and a good time was had by all, though I must admit I was fair tuckered out by the end.
GENERATIONS of children have enjoyed clambering over the welded metal play equipment in Memorial Park. Made by local engineer Dick West, the park once boasted 13 lovingly created fantasy structures.
New creations were first paraded publicly in the annual Rhododendron Festival and then installed in the park.
In 1997 the equipment was pulled out, deemed to no longer meet modern safety standards. But an outcry from locals saw four pieces - the stage coach, car, tiger moth and Old Woman's Shoe - returned. Sadly the famous Blackheath Moon Rocket, which stood 30 feet high and was installed in the park in 1961, is no longer on show.
