Meenakshi Temple

We took an early morning auto ride to the center of "Temple City" Madurai to visit Meenakshi Temple, one of the few Hindu temples honoring goddess Parvati. The tower behind me is one of the 14 entrances to the tower, this one is about 150' tall. Inside this building (completed in the 1650s) is a pond (about half the size of a football field), over 1000 carved pillars, and beautifully painted ceilings. Needless to say, it was very beautiful and really cool to see.
